With schools closing because of the corona virus, we’ve decided to combine the “Activity of the Week” and “Idea for the Weekend” into the “Idea for the Week” for families isolating themselves at home.
This week, go bird watching!
What birds live in your neighborhood? Head outside and find out! Take along the following items:
- Binoculars (optional)
- Pen or pencil
- Field guide or Smartphone
Find a place to sit where you have a good view of trees or bushes. Use the binoculars if your sitting far away. When you see a bird, write down its description. Then look it up in the field guide to see what kind of bird it is. If you don’t have a field guide, you can look up the name of the bird using an app for your smartphone. Merlin is a free app created by Cornell University that helps identify birds by using a few simple questions or a photo.
