Before beginning, find out the weather forecast for the week. Have each student record this information or post it where the whole class can view it.

Have the students keep a weather log for the next five days. Be sure to include the high temperature, the low temperature, and the amount of precipitation for each day. Also have them write the current weather conditions.

At the end of the week, answer the following questions as a class. Some will involve a little research.

  • How did the weather differ from the forecast?  Why is weather forecasting not an exact science?
  • How did the weather differ from the weather in the same location a year ago?
  • What are the record highs and lows for this week? When were they set?
