Journaling is an effective way to keep track of thoughts and emotions. It helps you express yourself, but it is also good for reflecting on the past and the potential actions of the future. Journaling during a full moon night is a beneficial way to wrap up one day and prepare yourself for the next one. The emotional release and clarity that comes from journaling is supported by the full moon. The moonlight can help bring out emotions, and its brightness can help set a calm environment that allows you to be open-minded and honest.
Getting Started
There are only 3 things you need to begin journaling: a writing tool, something to write on like a paper or notebook, and a willingness to explore your mind. Feel free to write the date, draw some pictures, and color to make your page more fun. Before starting with the journal prompts, I recommend doing a small check-in. How are you feeling today, and what things contributed to that feeling? Once you complete the check-in, you are ready to begin with the following journal prompts.
Prompts
1. What does nature give me every day that I am thankful for?
This question calls you to remember what nature offers you on the most basic level. It could be things like fresh air and the heat from the sun, an area to run, and birds.
2. What ways have I spent time in nature this month? How do I feel when I spend time in nature?
Have you gone on a walk recently? Or maybe you’ve talked outside with a friend before driving home. Reflect on your emotional experience with nature. Does being in nature make you feel relaxed, happy, or motivated?
3. How can I make a habit more nature-based?
Do you spend too much time on TikTok, or perhaps on the weekends you lay in bed all day? You could spend 30 minutes sitting outdoors doing something similar. That way you still get benefits such as reduced stress, an improved mood, and a boosted immune system that come from being outside.
4. What can I spend more time outside doing?
Can you start any hobbies that include being outdoors? Can you read a book, paint, or exercise outside? Doing an activity outside can feel refreshing and add some variety to the normal routine.
5. What is my favorite thing about the outdoors?
Is it the salty breeze by the ocean, or the little critters scurrying back to their homes in the grass? What is something that makes you stop and think, “I really love nature”?
Once you have finished, consider reading the questions and your responses out loud to the moon. This will help you communicate your goals and perspectives to listening ear that doesn’t judge. Whether you are just beginning to journal, or it is already a part of your daily routine, these questions will give you the reflective tools you need to enjoy a night under the illuminating moon.
