A great way for your family to enjoy an activity together and stay healthy is to create a routine of working out together. This could be once a week, a few times a week, or something short once a day. Below is an example of a workout that you can do together, but don’t hesitate to change it so that it is doable for each member of your family.

Try to time yourself for each exercise in 30 second increments. Repeat the cycle 3 times.

  1. Burpees: Begin in standing position, squat, push-up position, lay flat on the ground, push back up into a squat position, jump high! Repeat.

  2. Wall sits: Sit against a wall with your thighs parallel to the ground, knees directly above your ankles.

  3. Push-ups

  4. Inchworm: Begin in standing position, walk your hands on the ground forward until your back and legs are straight, walk your legs forward into standing position. Repeat.

  5. Plank: with your forearms on the ground and back and legs straight, hold this position with a tightened core.

  6. Mountain Climbers: In the push-up position and your back inclined upward, touch your toes one at a time to the ground below your waist. Repeat, alternating each foot.

These workouts will improve your legs, arms, and core. There are lots of benefits to having a regular routine for physical activity. One reason is that it pumps more oxygen to your brain, in turn supporting your brain health. Secondly, it will help you sleep better because it tires you out. Doing a workout in the evening could get the entire family on a routine sleep schedule. Lastly,  working out can help relieve stress and tension. The activity helps your body release endorphins that will improve the mood you are in and relieve any built up tension you may have. So get outside, work out, and have fun!
